The purpose of this course is to present to the successful participant, the knowledge and skills required to properly use, read and care for precision tools.  The course includes basic shop math for the purpose of calculating the measured results of precision instruments

"Shop Math" is covered to the extent that it allows the successful participant to use the information provided by precision instruments to calculate critical "fit" sizes and equipment running clearances.

Identify and properly use those precision measuring instruments required to achieve greater plant equipment reliability and longevity.

Make "valued" judgments as to the condition and usefulness of critical equipment parts that contribute to the reliability and dependability of plant equipment and processes.

Properly care for and store precision measuring instruments therefore ensuring their longevity, readiness and ability to take the next set of accurate measurements.

Appreciate the importance of machinery and equipment sizes, running clearances and their direct bearing on equipment reliability.
